The Departed : As I See

The best crime thriller I ever seen………..a masterpiece of absolute breath taking moments in the movie makes you think that once you are on your on the chair……..how many times you can see this movie !

The direction by Martin Scorsese is immaculate and the cast that he has chosen for this thriller has done justice on almost every role. As I haven’t seen much movies of Martin Scorsese apart from The Aviator (Want to see Godfellas too)……but whatever I have seen in this movie shows Martin’s great ability to keep the pace of movie even in long conversation….i mean you will never feel yourself out of movie at any time. It will not be wise to talk about the story here coz the more you will see the movie the more you will understand the story……..the script is just sparkling and the end is even better. The idea of movie shows that crime can go anywhere to any limits whether it is in police department or whether it is in any country. The sordid details have no limit and it can climb any walls.

And what can be said about the star cast of this movie………first I would like to talk about Jack Nicholson…..he really deserves the standing ovation for his acting………….he steals every scene he is in and shows why he is one of the best actor Hollywood has ever seen and justifies his woo to 3 time Oscar win and plenty of nomination too! His expression on his forehead whenever he speaks dialogues says all what he want to speak…….for example once he says to Bill (Leonardo DiCaprio) that “John Lennon said: I m an artist, if u give me a f**king tuba, I will get something out of it”……..now see his forehead’s direction during all this……..u will understand when he is talking about getting and giving. His self reliance as a Costello while saying to Bill that “The only one who could do what I do is me, a lot of people have to die for me to be me” is out of world and his dialogue delivery while accusing to Martin sheen (Queenan) that “if you could have, u would have” shows how much natural talent of temporary a man can posses. He is the man of the movie to watch out for.

The role of Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon is prefect blend of self arrogance and self confidence as undercover. I have seen so far 4 movies of Leonardo DiCaprio namely Titanic (the so called biggest blockbuster of Hollywood so far), The Aviator, Catch me if you can and this one…..but I liked him most in this……..not because he was not good in formers but he is much better than in those. I think he is the most graceful male actor ever to touch the silver screen. His conversation with Costello (Jack Nicholson) creates the moments of magic. See agility on his face when he says to Martin sheen and Mark Whelberg (Dignam) that “When you are gonna get Costello huh? What's wrong with taking him on any one......of the million felonies that you've seen him do or I've seen him do? I mean, he murdered somebody, right? The guy f**king murders somebody and you don't f**king take him! What are you waiting for huh? Do you want him to chop me up and feed me to the poor? That what you want?” His question on family as a connection to Costello creates anxiety on his face and his eyes says all that. The lines of tension can be seen very easily when he says to Vera Farmiga “You sit there with a mass murderer, a mass murderer………your heart rate jacked……you hand study”!!

Now talking abut Matt Damon……..i wondered can he do roles apart from his great hit Bourne Trilogy series in which he is at his best but tell you he has done same justice to his role as other members of crew. See the change in his stance when he comes to know that Costello (Jack Nicholson) is an FBI informant and says to him at last “what? Like a son huh? To you? Is that what this is about? All that murdering and f**king and no sons.” And his Fake Romantic talks with Vera Farmiga (another kind of double character in the movie) and one can wonder can Matt Damon be that much romantic?? Matt Damon has really done dazzling performance in this movie.

You can imagine how much a man fears for his life and position when that silent tensed talks occurs on cell phone between Sergeant Sullivan (Matt Damon) and Billy Costigan (Leonardo DiCaprio) when Queenan passes away.

Now talking about rest of the movie crew…….everybody is just immense in individual performance and that what makes this movie a great one. See the Martin Sheen (Queenan) experience while saying to Billy Costigan “We deal in deception here, what we do not deal is self-deception” and of course Alec Baldwin (Captain Ellerby) fast accent of saying that “Marriage is an important part of getting ahead…….. Lets people know you're not a homo. Married guy is more stable. People see the ring, think at least someone can stand him. Ladies see the ring, they know you must have some cash and your cock must work.” brings all what you want in a movie like this!

And at the last it would be injustice not talk about Mark Whelberg coz he is the guy who is at his best in this movie. His indeterminate abusive language creates a pace and humor in the the movie that no one can do which justifies his nomination as “beat actor in supporting role” during 2007 Academy Awards (Unfortunately he didn’t get that, coincidence another foul man stolen the trophy for Little Miss Sunshine)………..but anyways I liked him in the movie so much that I m trying some of his insulting words like “Whoop-de-f**king-do” and “la-di-f**king-da”……and many more his witty and awfully spoken dialogues makes him the best.

At the end I would like to talk about Dropkick Murphy’s number “Shipping up to Boston” sets the tone and swiftness for the movie and of course Rolling Stone’s melody in the back during the tense scenes makes u feel that u r watching a crime thriller.

I will rate this movie as 10 out of 10. I m praying from GOD…….plzzzzz doesn’t allow Bollywood guys to make its parody………plzzzzz……..otherwise it l will be an insult to this masterpiece.
